- Notify the insurer promptly after a potentially covered event.
- Check the policy wording and required claim documents.
- Do not compare insurance only by premium; understand coverage and exclusions.
First step after a loss
Notify your insurer as soon as reasonably possible when an event may lead to a claim. Nepal Insurance Authority consumer guidance notes that notification may be made by phone, SMS, email or another available channel.
Why documents matter
Depending on the claim, you may need the policy, claim form, details and evidence of the loss, a surveyor report or other supporting documents. The exact list differs by policy and claim type.
Read the policy wording
Coverage, exclusions, waiting periods, deductibles and deadlines can differ. A low premium does not by itself tell you whether a policy fits your needs.
If something is unclear
Use the insurer’s official claim or contact channel first and consult the regulator’s consumer information when needed.
Keeping the policy number, insurer contact details and key documents organized can make the claim process easier during a stressful event.
